Shamian Island

For years the US Consulate was located on Shamian Island.  This made the island very popular for American adoptive families.  The White Swan Hotel was also located here which is where many families stayed while in Guangzhou.  The Consulate has now moved off the island and the White Swan is closed for renovations.  The island has become very quiet and many shops have closed down.  On Tuesday we were able to tour the island for a few hours and hit the shops that are still open.  Shamian Island was very quaint and quite beautiful.  We wish we could have spent more time there but yet again, the weather was bad.  Poor Brian could barely keep up with me.  He pushed Ava's stroller and carried all my bags.  I simply went shop to shop and grabbing anything and everything while he paid the bill!!  Every time he thought I was done, I found more and out came his wallet.  I had a great time.
